5:34 pm - Footnote to resuming "A War in Zion"
I have made a number of updates and corrections to "Runaway Deputy" (particularly the last third), but I haven't updated LJ yet. I prioritized updating the 8 chapters of "A War in Zion" and then went on to working on Chapter 9. It's about half done. But I have a plot decision to make and think I need to sleep on it, so it is not posted as yet.

Stay tuned.

11:37 am - Note to people who have messaged me
I am trying to sort out with LJ support the fact that my email address isn't validating, so in the interim I cannot send reply messages. So to all of you who have sent me messages via LJ, if you want a reply then please email me directly at louisev@zebratta.com. Until I get this shit straightened out!

(reading too much Ellery and Wes dialogue as you can see).

11:26 am - So that's all messed up
I spent all evening and half of the night rereading "Runaway Deputy" which I believe took about what - 5 years to write? because I needed to reabsorb all the details of the days leading up to Ellery becoming Acting Sheriff.... and - dammitalltahell, the continuity with the opening chapters of "A War in Zion" is all off and I have to rewrite it.

"A War in Zion" that is. I made the monumental mistake of writing the last oh I don't know, 20,000 words of "Runaway Deputy" as all taking place on Friday and Saturday of one week, and now Saturday is all screwed up. Continuity is wrong, Joe's in the office in the intro and gets called in afterward, so ... rewrite. Still mulling how to deal with that, based on how the continuity of the previous book pans out. And it shows just how bad my concentration was having a sick man in the other room while I was trying to write the beginning of "War in Zion." I.e. totally shot. I'm usually much better than this.

At the moment I won't be moving my Livejournal pages, because I learned that even though LJ is owned by Russians in Russia, the servers and content are all hosted in (and controlled by) Americans in Sacramento still. And it's the servers and content I'm concerned about. I doubt seriously that anyone "exposing me" as a writer of very wordy gay detective fiction is going to impact my career - in the new age of Trump, it might actually make me "interesting." People already assume when they meet me that I'm a cigar puffing lesbian who drives a Jeep just because I have an androgen disorder so it isn't like I'm going to suffer from misidentification as gay. Maybe it'll help me with my authenticity in dealing with issues of bigotry. I'm babbling. Because I have to rewrite "War in Zion" before I can continue with it.

But rest assured,

I'm on the case.

P.S. : Okay so I'm an idiot. Minor continuity problems, because NEWSFLASH: the Intro was after the chapters, which are written in flashback (which I almost never do), and I didn't spell it out to my Future Self, and it wasn't self evident in the text, and needed more clarity. So - almost done with the continuity fixes which ended up being a bit more minor. Need to clarify that they let Esteban out again with antabuse pills after sending him to Evergreen, which I'll actually write into the text, instead of dreaming about writing it and then giving himself a major headache later.

10:42 pm - The Newyear Anagram
Of course nowadays we've got website applications that help us do all of this, but Ellery didn't have that in 1986:

11:13 pm - When Dupree got that threatening phone call
I looked for about a half an hour through "Runaway Deputy" and came up dry and then it dawned on me that it must have been in the previous book, but the problem is that the search terms "Dupree" "Jeremy" and "phone" are very large results... and then ...I spent an hour searching through "Agents of the Law" the book prior to "Runaway Deputy", but keep in mind I wrote all that stuff SIX YEARS AGO so I guess I shouldn't feel bad that I can't find it in a text search.

But if someone can put their finger on the scene in "Agents of the Law" where a mysterious voice - tracked back to Willard Friend's phone in "Runaway Deputy" which is why Friend ended up under indictment - please tell me, because it's important to the next chapter, which is tentatively entitled "What Amber Knew." And no it isn't done because I have to reread "Agents of the Law" before I can finish it! I hate making mistakes in my own way-too-complicated plot.

Here's a trivia question for you - who was Willard Friend's original lawyer?

Even I couldn't answer that before I spent two hours speed-reading "Runaway Deputy".

The answer: Caleb Jeffs.

Yeah - so it's like that.

Stay tuned, tomorrow is Saturday!
